Breakfast addicts rejoice!…healthy french toast is finally here, with this simple and delicious Ezekiel Bread French Toast recipe!
So, for a special post Valentine’s Day treat, I want to make some delicious French Toast yesterday for Nik and I. But, since I started eating clean, I try to not eat too much regular bread and I usually stay clear of most things made from refined flour.
However, I am obsessed with Ezekiel bread! So naturally, I make Ezekiel Bread French Toast, and you’d never even guess it’s healthy!
Reasons to ♡ Ezekiel Bread
♥ Made from sprouted grains such as wheat, millet, barley, and spelt. Sprouted grains are more nutritional dense than just the grain itself.
♥ Also made from legumes such as soybeans and lentils which add more protein to the bread.
♥ There is no added sugar as in many other breads
♥ It is made from only organic ingredients
♥ Lower in carbohydrates and higher in protein than regular bread
I like my French toast pretty dense so I like using 2 whole eggs. But I’ve made is a bunch before with one whole egg and some egg whites, and even just with egg whites alone — all variations are tasty and delicious! Just make sure you don’t “soak” your Ezekiel bread in the eggs like you do with regular bread…it will fall apart, just dunk it quick and right into the pan! EASY.
Cook it until it’s nice and brown and crispy, then of course you’ll want to add some fresh fruit to top it all off…or maybe even some shredded coconut…YUM! Feel free to experiment with what you like best!…Oh, make sure you don’t skimp on the cinnamon!!
The best part about this breakfast is that it literally take 5 minutes to make. But if you’re in a super huge hurry and are a french toast addict — like this girl, right here — you may even want to do a little healthy meal prepping. (You know I’m all about a good meal prep recipe!)
Trust me it’s easy, just prepare your Ezekiel french toast as you normally would, but once it’s cooked allow it to cook on a wire rack. Once it’s completely cool, freeze it on a cookie sheet in a single layer, and transfer over to a big ziplock once frozen. Toast them up in the toaster, and violá — a simple breakfast in seconds!
- Heat a non-stick pan over a low to medium. Grease pan with the coconut oil.
- Scramble the eggs, milk, cinnamon, and honey in a medium bowl. Transfer the egg mixture in a pie dish, or low-set bowl.
- Dunk the Ezekiel bread in the egg mixture for 15 second on each side.
- Cook the Ezekiel bread for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Serve warm with toppings of choice.
