Natural Coconut Oil Deodorant

Coconut Oil Deodorant

I am SO excited about this post!

Ok, I get it…It’s deodorant…weird thing to be excited about, I know. BUT, I have been looking for an all natural, aluminum-free deodorant for over a year. I must have tried over six different kinds, all of which have given me a horrible rash OR haven’t worked at all.

Now if you don’t know, aluminum is the ingredient that prevents sweating in an anti-perspirant. Our bodies are designed to sweat to release toxins from our bodies. SWEATING IS A GOOD THING, it means your body is functioning properly.

A major reason I wanted an aluminum-free deodorant was because aluminum-based deodorants may be linked to causing breast cancer (and possibly Alzheimer’s). I’m not taking any chances with this, no thanks… Also, my philosophy is that, what is the point of eating whole and natural foods if we are just layering our bodies with chemicals that are absorbed through our skin anyway? The goal should be to live naturally in ALL aspects of our life.

*UPDATE* Another great reason to use a natural deodorant is that the more often you use aluminum-based deodorant the more bacteria your body will produce in your under arms. In other words you will have more body odor. A natural deodorant won’t throw off your body’s bacterial balance. After a few weeks of using a this deodorant, you will notice you sweat less and a have LOT less odor even when you aren’t wearing any deodorant. I swear it, I have been using this deodorant for 8 months and will NEVER go back to store-bought again!

Luckily, a client told me about this recipe and, of course, I had to try it immediately! I’m are so glad I did, because this deodorant is AMAZING. If you have seen my Coconut Lime Body Scrub or  Vanilla Coconut Body Scrub recipes you already know my love for coconut oil. Well, chalk one more up for coconut oil, because it has amazed me once again!

Coconut Oil

If you’ve read about our love of coconut oil you will already know that coconut oil contains lauric acid which naturally kills odor-causing bacteria and fungus, which makes it a perfect base for natural deodorant. The baking soda neutralizes odor, just as it does in your refrigerator, and arrowroot and cornstarch absorb moisture helping keep you naturally dry (opposed to preventing you from sweating at all). These natural ingredients together create a deodorant that ACTUALLY works.

This recipe is so simple and works so well that you will never go back to store bought deodorant again. Because we are the type of girls who are always busy and need things to be quick, as we are always on the go, we mix it up, and put it in deodorant tubes from Amazon. But, you can also put it in a jar and use a finger or two to apply a small amount to your under arms and gently rub in. So simple!

  1. I absolutely LOVE this deodorant, it is ALL natural and it REALLY does work! I’m a female and I’ve had excessive sweating and odour all my life…that’s just how my body works I guess. I’ve even smelled worse than my husband at times…LOL but he still loves me. But seriously, if anyone is in the same situation as me, PLEASE try this deodorant recipe. I will NEVER go back to commercial deodorants again. I actually used about 20 drops of essential oil for a slight scent. I used approximately 13 drops of Sweet Orange and 7 drops of Rosemary Essential Oils. THANKS SO MUCH to The Life Fit Girls for this wonderful, inexpensive and non-toxic deodorant!

    1. Angela, thanks so much for trying this recipe and letting me know! I LOVE this recipe and still use it to this day. It seriously changed my life and I’m glad it helped you too. I like adding extra EO too! No problem with that! šŸ˜‰
