We’ve compiled our Top 10 Favorite Fat Burning Spices just for you! AND we share our favorite ways of adding each of them into our diets so that we can have MAXIMUM fat burning meals all day long!
Garlic – Garlic has long been known to help speed up your metabolism, but it also helps regulate blood sugar levels, helping prevent sugar cravings. We love this in just about everything from our Simple Grilled Shrimp all the way to our Pineapple Mango Salsa!
Turmeric – This popular Indian spice has often been called The “Queen of Spices”. It has been proven to promote liver function, helping to detox the body and break down fat. Our favorite way to enjoy turmeric is with Chicken Tikka Masala and Chana Masala, a tomato-based sauce with either chicken or chickpeas. We’ve even made it homemade before and it’s so delicious!
Cumin – Cumin is mostly associated with Mexican and Spanish food, but is also popular in Middle Eastern foods as well. It has been proven to reduce blood glucose levels and helps the digestive system. It also produces energy and boosts your immune system. We love cumin in Turkey and Vegetarian Chili as well as in our Homemade Taco Seasonings!
Cinnamon – One of our top 3 favorites for sure! Cinnamon reduces blood sugar levels preventing sugar cravings and boosts your metabolism. What is cinnamon not good in? We love added to yogurt, in our Homemade Granola, and on our Ezekiel French Toast!
Mint – Mint not only helps to decrease appetite, it also helps to speed and ease digestion, and helps prevent inflammation. We love adding mint to smoothies and fresh juices. We also love adding a few springs to our healthier cocktails! 😉
Cayenne – Turn up the heat with cayenne pepper! This spice helps raise body temperature boosting your metabolism and helps you burn more calories. It also helps decrease levels of hunger. Meg loves adding some to her scrambled eggs, and I use it in our Ragin’ Cajun Seasoning, and even sprinkle it in my favorite Carrot Apple Ginger Juice!
Black Pepper – Probably the most common spice on the list, but it still sure is a fat burner! It is both natural diuretic properties, to help flush out the system, as well as antioxidants to help keep the digestive system healthy. It also raises your bodies core temperature to help speed up your metabolism. We love black pepper on just about EVERYTHING, we always use fresh ground pepper to, to really up the fat burning benefits! 😉
Mustard – This versatile spice can be used in so many ways! From sandwiches to salad dressings this is a perfect condiment to add for fat burning power! Mustard seed, like most of the hot spices on the list, will boost your metabolism. Mustard also helps regulate blood sugar levels and helps fight inflammation. Be sure to buy mustard that does not have a lot of additives or added sugars. We love making Honey Mustard Salmon and Chicken or we just squeeze some on roasted veggies for a little extra zing! 😉
Dandelion – Probably the least common on this list, Dandelion has been becoming more and more popular as people are realized all of the great health benefits. Dandelion helps slow digestion, to make you fell fuller longer. It flushes waste from your kidneys and helps the liver function better, really help to clease your system. Our favorite way to enjoy it is in Dandelion Tea with fresh lemon juice and a teaspoon of honey.
Ginger – This is another one of our favorites! Fresh ginger is so lovely to add to dished to get a little spice as well as add some freshness! Ginger suppresses appetite and also aids digestion. Ginger helps the liver remove toxins from the body and slightly raises your core temperature to boost your metabolism. We love ginger in fresh juices such as out Green Ginger Juice or added to meats like our Teriyaki Chicken Kebobs!
