So, my Meal Prepping Basics post has been one of the most popular posts on the blog for months, and today I wanted to expand on that a little bit with one of my favorite ways to prep ahead.
I LOVE my green smoothies in the morning, but what I don’t love is how long it takes in the morning to cut up my fruits and veggies and measure out my ingredients. So, I usually prep my smoothies every single week and make homemade smoothie freezer packs to save time during my busy mornings.
These DIY smoothie packs are so simple to make and you can literally prep a week worth of smoothies in just 10 minutes!
You can prep your smoothies with just about anything you want, but I wanted to share my favorite smoothie recipe with you!
Feel free to get creative with your smoothie packs and add things like pineapples, oranges, strawberries, mangoes, beets or carrots.
If you’re eating on a budget, you can always buy your fruits and veggies pre-frozen. Just make sure to put your smoothie packs together fast so that the fruits don’t melt. (They’ll stick back together and cause a big ice block!)
You can even add sources of protein like protein powder (I like Manitoba Harvest Hemp Pro 70) or nonfat Greek yogurt. You can freeze yogurt into ice cube trays and them pre-pack them into your individual packs or just add the yogurt when you actually make the smoothie. Just remember to label the front of your ziplock bag, on what additions you need to add into your smoothie so that you always know.
You can even prep a few different kinds of smoothies so that you always have a good variety to choose from!
Have fun with it, and find what works for YOU! The greatest thing about DIY smoothie packs is that YOU have control!
- 1 large kale leaf
- 1 medium collard green
- 1/2 large banana
- 1/2 medium apple
- 1 tablespoon ground flax seeds
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (or to taste)
- 1 cup coconut water
- 1/2 cup ice
- Cut veggies and fruit into 1-2 inch pieces so that they blend easily once frozen. Place everything in a plastic baggie, and freeze until ready to make your smoothie.
- Pour the coconut water and ice into the blender and add one entire smoothie pack. Blend until liquified.
