I know, I know…long time no talk. I keep saying it every time I hop on here.
Things have been CRAZY…what with the Booty Band SWEAT Guide update being released, working at three different studios here in LA, and trying to find a good blog, work, life balance, I have seriously been on the struggle bus.
And to be perfectly honest with your ladies…so has my OWN fitness.
Yes, believe it or not, even I have a hard time balancing everything, staying healthy, getting my workouts in, and not over exerting myself at work. (<– still not quite there yet with that last bit!)
But I am finally beginning to put myself first again, which is SO important for health, happiness, and everything in between.
So since I am finally getting my life balanced again, I wanted to share some tips with you to help you get your fitness and health back on track.
Start with Something Easy – I know what you’re thinking, “Why would I start back up just to go easy on myself?” — I struggle with this feeling too. But sometimes the thought of getting a hardcore workout session in can turn you off from getting a workout in at all. So if it’s been a while choose something you REALLY enjoy and just let yourself enjoy it. Choose a Pilates or yoga class that isn’t too intense, or try a dance class to get your booty moving. Go outside for a run and don’t worry about your pace — just have FUN. Remember it doesn’t always have to be super hard to get a good sweat in.
New Workout Gear – I don’t know about you but getting a new workout outfit ALWAYS makes me motivated to put on my new digs and get back into the gym or studio. New clothes always help to make us feel more confident, and looking cute in your activewear can seriously motivate you to get up and move.
For example just last week I received some new Brooks running gear just in time for spring. And I’m loving it so much that I have already been out THREE TIMES in the same outfit. I feel stylish and cute not only to walk and run with the dogs, but also riding my bike, teaching classes, and around town running errands.
That’s what I love about Brooks is that it’s not only a running brand, it’s an active lifestyle brand. So you can feel comfortable in all of their clothes and shoes whether your at the gym, in the studio, walking around town, or grabbing a coffee with girlfriends.
Not to mention, I have had SO MANY compliments on these cute new Limited Edition Levitate Shoes (they’re just like the regular Levitate shoes, but with fresh new colors and styles!), this hoodie (which I also have in lime green!), and these super stylish mesh crops this week — seriously it’s been crazy! So naturally I have been living in this outfit! 😉 The white kicks totally compliment the white hoodie, and the mesh are SO in right now.
So when you’re getting back into the swing of things find cute workout gear that will motivate you get your sweat on, and still be functional from studio to street. Everything I’m wearing here was purchased on Zappos — which has free shipping, amazing customer service, and an unbeatable 365 day return policy.
Prepare your Gym Bag – Now that you’ve got those new leggings and kicks 😉 …put them into your gym bag and get ready for your workout. Pack your bag the night before your workout, so you can hop out of bed and get to the gym early before work.
Or if you’re more of a night exerciser, now you won’t have excuse to head home after work. You’ll have everything you need to get your sweat on. The hardest part is getting those sneakers laced up. So once you have all of your gear ready to go and with you, there will be no more excuses!
Add it to Your Calendar – Pencil this in and make it just as important as your work meetings. This has been HUGE for me. I live and breathe by my calendar, and if I book myself a class, I put it in my calendar and I DO NOT MISS IT. If things pop up, or people try to schedule calls, sessions, or anything else with me during those times I always work around my own workouts.
Remember YOU ARE IMPORTANT TOO. It’s ok to put yourself first, and work on your health and your happiness. When you’re healthy, you can take care of others more efficiently and be more efficient and happier in your own work.
Take a New Class – If you need some inspiration, a new class or new studio can be just the thing to get you excited about working out again. I love trying new studios and new class techniques — it gives me inspiration for new workouts to share with you, and helps to target muscles that I might neglect on my own.
If you’re looking for something new try a new yoga or barre studio, take a Pilates, dance, or spin class. Try something new like TRX or even karate or boxing. Who knows, you might even find a new favorite workout!
Get an Exercise Buddy – When all else fails, enlist a friend, significant other, or family member to get back into it with you. You’ll always be more accountable when you have someone to meet for your workouts. Invite a friend to class or out for a run or hike. Make it a date and make it FUN!
Get Your Nutrition On Track – You’ll always feel better and more motivated when both your fitness and your nutrition is on point. So why not get back into it all at once? Get on your meal prep grind and make yourself some mason jar salads, or get back on the smoothie train if you’ve taken some time off.
