Welcome to the second week of The Essential Oil Series!
As I mentioned last week, one of my favorite ways to use essential oils is to give my apartment a nice clean aroma — and help mask the scent of a smelly boyfriend and two stinky pups!
There are TWO ways that I really love diffusing essential oils — a simple DIY reed diffuser and diffuser lamp rings. Both are super simple, and in my personal opinion, much prettier than most electric or battery operated diffusers. (Am I the only one that thinks they look like weird pod-things??)
Essential oils smell SO much fresher (and less chemical-y!), than those air fresheners and sprays you can buy at the store. Oh — and let’s not mention, the fact that most of those air fresheners are filled with TOXIC chemicals — some of which may even cause cancer!
Essential oils are a much healthier way to freshen the air AND even enjoy all of the benefits that each individual oil has on health and mood.
I seriously have FOUR of these reed diffusers around my little apartment. One is, of course by my bed, filled with lavender oil to help me fall asleep. I mentioned last week, I have one on my desk with a mixture of lavender and rosemary oil to keep me stress-free AND focused while I work.
I also have TWO diffuser lamp rings, one in my bedroom and one in my living room — for an added boost of fragrance! The ring’s fragrance only lasts a couple of hours — so it’s great for when guests come over, or you need an extra little oomph!
Here’s a quick and easy way to make your own reed diffuser for your home or office. The best part is that the scent combinations are literally endless and you can make ANY scent you can dream of!
- Thoroughly wash and dry your bottle before making your diffuser.
- Pour the sweet almond oil in the bottle to fill it half way.
- Pour in 20-50 drops of your essential oil of choice. Feel free to mix two or more oils together for different fragrances — to do this do 10-25 drops of each, or play around with it until you’re happy with your scent.
- Place the diffuser reeds in the opening of the bottle, and tie a piece of twine or ribbon around it to dress it up a bit, if you’d like! 🙂
