I honestly can’t get enough of the stuff. I put it on toast, I dip apples in it, I make ants on a log with it. I put it in healthy grain-free brownies, yogurt, muffins, in a tortilla wrap, on my daily piece of chocolate. You name it, I have probably tried it…WITH ALMOND BUTTER. Not to mention, I can most definitely eat it right out of the jar…or heck, RIGHT OUT OF THE FOOD PROCESSOR!!
Almond butter is one of my healthy pantry staples, I eat it everyday. I go through a jar of it a week…at least! And there is NOTHING, not in the entire world, that is better than fresh ground almond butter. And if you’ve had it from Whole Foods right out of the grinder, it won’t even compare to making it AT HOME.
It’s so warm and gooey when you make it at home that you can’t help but lick the entire food processor clean…I may have even licked the blade…PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT! Haha!
I love my almond butter raw, but if you prefer the taste of roasted almonds you can do that as well, heck try both and see which you like better!
Almond butter is extremely easy to make…the only challenging thing about it is waiting for it to be done! But with a little patience (ok, maybe a lot) you can have fresh ground almond butter in about 30 minutes!
The process is simple enough: depending on the size of your food processor, put 1-3 cups of almonds in your food processor. Turn it on and wait, every 5 minutes or so, stop grinding and scrape down the sides. I like my almond butter super smooth, but if you’re a chunky kind of person, nut-butter-wise 😉 , then simply add some finely chopped almonds into your smooth almond butter for an added crunch!
- 1 pound almonds – raw or roasted
- *If you are roasting your almonds, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Roast almonds for 10 to 15 minutes, checking frequently. The almonds should be fragrant and slightly browned. Let cool for 5 minutes.
- Put almonds in you food processor and turn on high.
- Every 5 minutes scape the sides down and continue grinding. Depending on the size of you food processor and how powerful it is it may take 20-30 minutes.
- Grind until almond butter reaches a smooth consistency of your liking.
- **If you are making chunky butter, chop a ¼ to a ½ cup of almonds and add to the smooth nut butter at the end. Pulse the food processor for 10 seconds to fully mix.
- Once the almond butter is the consistency you like, spoon into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.
- Stays good up to 4 months (not that it will last that long!)
