First of all — how GORGEOUS are these flowers Nik bought me this weekend?!

We film all of my workout videos in Downtown LA, right in the Fashion and Flower District. So every time we go film, Nik buys me a bouquet of flowers — and it’s SUPER cheap there, and really fresh! If you live in LA, go there for your flowers — so worth it!

Both he and I love the combo of roses and eucalyptus. The eucalyptus smells amazing — and so do the roses, of course! And they look stunning together. I chose yellow roses this time because they were so bright and cheer-y on that hot summer day!

I love natural beauty — and I have for years. But a few years ago, when I first became really into learning about nutrition and eating wholesome, natural foods, I realized that we can’t just EAT wholesome natural foods, we have to also try to rid our daily lives of all the chemicals and junk that have somehow made it into our lives and the products we use daily.

So, I made the decision to make my skincare and beauty routine as natural as possible. I’ll post my favorite beauty products soon, but today I want to share my favorite cleansing and moisturizing products. I don’t use many products — but honestly, my skin has NEVER felt or looked better than it has the last few months.

Here are the exact products I use, and — as always — I swear by each and every one of them. I hope you enjoy! 🙂

Natural Skincare Routine 3

Homemade Soap or Castile Bar Soap – I’ve talked MANY times about how much I love my homemade soap (I swear a recipe is coming very soon!), and I use it not only to wash my body, but also to wash my face. It’s a 100% Olive Oil Castile soap, made with goat’s milk. It’s incredibly moisturizing and very soothing. Another great natural soap would be a honey and oatmeal soap. You can always find handmade soaps at your local farmer’s market or natural health food store — Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s always have good selections too! (P.s. Make sure it’s a MILD Castile soap — sometimes brands like Dr. Bronner’s are a concentrate and need to be diluted.)

Thayer’s Witch Hazel – After I wash my face, I love using Thayer’s Witch Hazel as a facial astringent. Witch hazel has been used for centuries as a topical treatment for so many skin issues — including acne and oily skin, as well as redness and swelling. It’s a natural cleanser, and helps to reduce bacteria growth — making it perfect for keeping breakouts at bay. Witch hazel also helps to tighten and minimize pores and even out your skin tone. I used to be addicted to Clinique Toner, but since switching to a natural option, my skin has become much softer, and even more clear.

Organic Coconut Oil – My love of coconut oil for skin + hair is well known — dry skin? Coconut Oil. Frizzy hair? Coconut oil. Popcorn? Coconut oil. (Yes, for real.) So, obviously, it’s a part of my skincare routine. I have been using coconut oil for years as a body moisturizer and a make up remover…but about 6 months ago, I finally started using it as a facial moisturizer as well. Seriously, it’s been the BEST thing I could have ever done for my skin. My skin have NEVER been softer, clearer, or looked more glowing. I know it literally sounds crazy to put oil on your face. But honestly coconut oil as a cleanser and moisturizer is perfect. It’s filled with lauric acid — a natural anti-bacterial, anti-fungal fatty acid that also is known to be anti-aging. Prevent breakouts and makes your skin look younger? — CHECK! Coconut oil does it again!

Coconut Scrub – About once a week, I give my whole body a good scrub down to remove old and dead skin, and that includes my face as well. I have a few scrub recipes here on the blog, and one of my favorite is the Vanilla Coconut Oil Scrub. It’s very mild and uses sugar cane as it’s exfoliator. Which is the perfect-sized exfoliator for your face — as opposed to course-ground raw sugar. Gently exfoliating your skin once a week will allow for healthy, new skin to regenerate and increases blood flow. Not to mention, it smoothes out your skin for a soft and beautiful texture.

Tea Tree Oil for Breakouts – This is a newer find for me, and I’m OBSESSED. Tea Tree Oil has long been associated with treating acne, so it makes sense that it would vanish zits instantly. If you see a little breakout coming in, put a few drops of Tea Tree Oil on a Q-tip, and dab it directly on the pimple. The next day it will basically be gone — seriously it’s THAT good.

Face Masks – I also LOVE my face masks. I usually use a face mask about every other week or so. I really like this simple 3-Ingredient Face Mask for something in a pinch. You probably already have all the ingredients at home. I also love using French green clay too — recipe coming for this as well! 😉
